Interesting locos
Title:  Interesting locos
Description:  There is a real beauty of a portrait of this lead GP40 by Andrew Koenigsberg (in his album Some misc. roster shots) from the Summer of 1978. Lets just say that by the Winter of 87, it was looking pretty rough. The 2nd unit is interesting not just because it is still in GM&O colors, but because there are two different stories about its eventual fate. One has it going to Goderich & Exeter 9543 (later re-numbered GEXR 3835), The other having it end up with NECR via Conrail and then Helm Leasing. Guess I'll need to look into that further..

ICG 3019
Title:  ICG 3019
Description:  Always kind of liked this shot as a good illustration of 70s railroading. This ICG crew is working the Conrail interchange in Effingham, Illinois and, yes, there are three guys at the head-end and thats the conductor walking the train with a portable radio slung over his shoulder. No EOTDs or two man crews back in those days!

IC 8014
Title:  IC 8014
Description:  I remember at the time often being disappointed to see a re-built GP8 or GP10 on the point of an ICG freight -- why not that cool GP40 right behind it? I suppose time changes your view. Now I appreciate them for the somewhat exotic - if not attractive - creatures they were.

IC 3003
Title:  IC 3003
Description:  All kinds of stuff going on here: IC in black, IC in orange & white, GM&O, a friendly wave from the engineer, and the most freshly ballasted track EVER -- all at Wilderman siding in Belleville, IL.

ICG 3055
Title:  ICG 3055
Description:  This GP40 - seen here working the ICG/Conrail interchange in Effingham, IL - was built as IC 3055 in Feb 1967. In March 1982, it was sold to KCS where it became unit #791. It was later rebuilt to a GP40WH-2 and became MARC 65. By 9/2010 it was retired and would eventually end up in Boise, ID at Motive Power Industries. Who would have guessed back in '79 that it would have such a colorful history?.
