Description:
ICG didnt always have the best record for doing regular track maintenance -- at least not in the St. Louis area. That caught up to them on a winter day in 1980 when this GP9 and a half-dozen cars took a tumble from a westbound freight in Belleville.

Description:
Looking at this scene, you might well imagine it to be immediately post-merger with the Illinois Central Green Diamond geep leading the GM&O GP38. Only the trailing Paducah re-build suggest that it may be a bit later. It is, in fact, a full seven years and counting since the birth of Illinois Central Gulf as this freight rolls through Freeburg, Illinois the day after Christmas in 1979.
