GM&O 914 |
Description: |
Illinois Central Gulf was great fun in the early 1980s. You really never knew what you might get on any given train - often Paducah re-builds, sometimes IC "green diamond" Geeps, or, as in this case, GM&O units still wearing original colors and numbers. Here an SD40 has the point on an eastbound crossing the (then) brand-new Kaskaskia River bridge at New Athens, IL. |

Interesting locos |
Description: |
There is a real beauty of a portrait of this lead GP40 by Andrew Koenigsberg (in his album Some misc. roster shots) from the Summer of 1978. Lets just say that by the Winter of 87, it was looking pretty rough. The 2nd unit is interesting not just because it is still in GM&O colors, but because there are two different stories about its eventual fate. One has it going to Goderich & Exeter 9543 (later re-numbered GEXR 3835), The other having it end up with NECR via Conrail and then Helm Leasing. Guess I'll need to look into that further.. |
